The Franchise Association of South Africa Transforming the Sector

The Franchise Association of South Africa (FASA) is the oldest internationally recognised Franchise Association on the continent. FASA is responsible for the roll-out of ethical franchising in South Africa. The Association protects, lobbies, promotes, and develops ethical franchising across various sectors in South Africa, with key focus on transformation.

The Franchise Association of South Africa (FASA) is Mandated to:

  • Promote the concept of franchising as a viable business model to potential franchisors and franchisees;
  • Issue guidelines that sound franchise schemes should operate in;
  • Apply a Code of Ethics to the industry and establish standards of international best practices;
  • Promote franchising in the small business sector, with the aim of nurturing entrepreneurship, contributing to skills transfer, and job creation;
  • Obtain and share information on franchising;
  • Provide education on franchise-related subjects; and
  • Represent the sector government, legislation, media, and the general public.

Franchising is accepted as one of the most successful business formats on a global scale. FASA’s role is therefore to continuously promote the advantages of franchising to South African business entrepreneurs, prospective franchisees, and to the public at large.

FASA holds the distinction of being one of the first countries globally to adopt a Code of Ethics and Business Practices that became amongst the most stringent in the world. Their Code of Ethics and Business Practices remains resilient in the 21st century.

Franchise companies that operate in accordance with ethical business practices and comply with the legal and regulatory requirements of the South African business landscape should be recognised for their compliant business policies in the franchise industry. Becoming an accredited Member of the Association provides franchises with much needed credibility in the sector. Moreover, membership provides a clear distinction between ethical and compliant franchise companies and the rest of the industry.
